PRACTICE // SKEIN
Skein value rigour and authenticity and our aim is to develop and treasure strong relationships with creative and ethical clients.
We gravitate towards unique and complex projects, a result of our diverse backgrounds - James previously practiced as carpenter and joiner and Steve studied and practiced visual art.
Currently, our clients range from young families through to internationally recognised cultural institutions, and we are comfortable working on projects of varied size and scale.

THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE THE PRACTICE ETHOS //
WHAT IS THE MOST VALUED ITEM IN YOUR OFFICE //
We’re fond of our record collection.
HOW DOES YOUR PRACTICE APPROACH THE DESIGN PROCESS //
The practice fosters an authentic approach to the relationship between traditional craftsmanship and digital processes.
As such, our aim is to produce work that is timeless and considered using materials that rely on detail embedded in a lineage of construction systems to create interest. Our process is grounded in deep consideration of material texture and the process of ageing to tie each project to its specific location.
Skein are passionate about developing processes and systems with artists, craftspeople, and fabricators. We love discovering operators who are highly skilled but fly under the radar and to connect with people who offer unique approaches to creativity.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR CLIENTS WOULD DESCRIBE YOU //
We think we’d be thought of as a practice that is approachable, calm, respectful, and diligent.
